Do you live in Luxembourg and are you considering buying in Portugal, whether for a second home, an investment or your retirement? Here are the main steps, and how Immotrio supports you remotely as well as on-site.
Define your project
Second home, holiday rental or eventual relocation: the intended use of the property guides the choice of region (Algarve, Lisbon area, Porto and the North), the type of property and the budget.
Obtain your Portuguese tax number (NIF)
Any purchase in Portugal requires a tax identification number. It is obtained from the Portuguese tax authorities, either directly or through a representative.
Select and visit properties
We pre-select properties matching your criteria and organise viewings, either on-site or by video.
The preliminary contract (contrato-promessa)
Once the offer is accepted, a preliminary contract sets out the price, conditions and the date of final signing. A deposit is generally paid at this stage.
The final deed (escritura)
The sale is finalised before a notary or an authorised body, then registered with the land registry.
